TECH NEWSFLASH !
I’m not sure how all these downloaded apps are being counted but supposedly the App Store has just hit the 3 billion downloads mark. For those of you keeping track, that is an increase of 1 billion in three months. That means there are roughly 7,700 apps downloaded a minute, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

All Tech Considered marks 2010 with a tribute — from musician and writer David Was — to the laser, which turns 50 years old this year. Was checks out new laser gadgets at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Windows 7 will turn your single Wi-Fi card into two

One of the things that we love most about Windows 7 right now is the much-improved taskbar. But as much as we love it, it’s not allowing us to do anything radically different than from before. Much of what we’ve reported about Windows 7 centers around small tweaks and changes that make us enjoy our computing experience more, but now we’ve learned about something that could change the way that we use our portable computers.

Microsoft has been researching since 2002, a technology that would allow a wireless adaptor to appear as more than just the single piece of hardware that it is.

Windows 7 will allow through clever virtualization software a single Wi-Fi card to appear as two. For the way that most of us use Wi-Fi today, this doesn’t sound like a big deal – but with two ‘virtual’ adapters, now we can connect to two hotspots at once.
The revolutionary part comes in when you want to use one virtual Wi-Fi adapter to connect to a hotspot and the other one to share the connection with other laptops. This could be useful for paid connections at public places such as hotels. Only one paid-internet pass would be needed, which can then be shared through the second virtualized adapter. You could even take it a step further by using the second adapter as a repeater.

PC PROBLEMS.........

Well now we all know computers are used in everyday life by everyone, or more or less everyone anyhow.  Whatever you use it for wether in a office or home, for web browsing to editing, to design or gaming we like to have a stable fast computer, so when a computer starts to be sluggish or crashing it can be down to many, many different problems from hardware to software, if you know enough about them you can sort any problem out without having to call someone out.  Although sometimes if it is hardware you have to replace the faulty hardware.  Sometimes you can be surprised by the cause, various examples of sluggish performance could be down to a virus, overheating, faulty hardware, faulty software, corrupted windows, the list goes on, but these are the main culprits.  Sometimes if something say your printer has stopped working in windows it could be software corruption, the software for the printer, thats if everything else like ink has been checked etc,  could be just as simple as uninstalling the software and re-installing it again after a restart and plugging the printer in when it says to.  This is a small example of little problems what can be resolved.

Say if you using a browser and it keeps on crashing, sometimes a update to the browser will fix any corruption.

When you know your own computer well you know how it should perform and are happy when everything is stable.   Sometimes a few adjustments can make a messed up computer stable as rock!

Bluetooth 4.0 details already!  Bluetooth 3.0 has only just come out.

20/04/2010

A good few months back details were put out for the new bluetooth 3.0 specifications,  now details for bluetooth 4.0 have come out, it will be interesting to see if 3.0 is used in hardware at all in these coming months.

Here are details for bluetooth 4.0.

With Bluetooth 3.0 barely out the door, the Bluetooth SIG finalized the next version - Bluetooth 4.0. It builds on the previous version, but adds a new low power mode.

Bluetooth 3.0 brought high-speed transfers by piggy-backing on 802.11 technology and achieved maximum speeds of 24Mbps (vs. 3Mbps for 2.0 + EDR). Version 4.0 on the other hand is low-bandwidth, but low power enough to work on cell-button powered devices.

This does sound good for small portable devices and makes sense with the low power.

However, Bluetooth 4.0 incorporates classic Bluetooth, high-speed Bluetooth and low-power Bluetooth. According to the Bluetooth SIG, devices are now not limited to 10 meter range - ranges can go up to 60 meters.

Bluetooth 3.0 is not very popular among mobile phones right now, except for support in the odd Samsung, most new phones stick to 2.0 or 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR).

The first Bluetooth 4.0 devices are expected to appear in late 2010 or early 2011. This could mean that mobile phones manufacturers will probably make the jump straight to Bluetooth 4.0 skipping ver. 3.0 altogether.

Bored of your operating system? using xp or vista? i recommend updating or fully fresh installing windows 7,  overall support now for windows 7 is excellent! It has better performance even on older hardware over 3 years old! Generally better for gaming.

Last year i put up the 3 network coverage map.  Now i have updated the coverage, included providers are O2, T-MOBILE, 3, VODAFONE AND ORANGE, you can compare coverage of each for the uk.

As you can see the 3 network covers more area, orange coming a pretty close second what is a surprise.

QUAKE 3 CONVERTED TO S60[SYMBIAN]PHONE  TESTED ON VIVAZ

Basically fully playable online, with mouse and keyboard, [ bluetooth compatible set ], and against a computer on the same network.
There are conversions for iphone/touch and maybe ANDROID too,  quake 3 in it's heyday on pc and consoles was a blast!! I bought my first copy of it on DREAMCAST, great machine at the time, didn't have the 3rd party support to keep it going but it had some great classics! First time i was online gaming was through my dreamcast,  old school 56k modem, yet it actually played well on it, very good conversion, spent many hours fragging away.
Now with the more powerful phones from the last few years upto now,  Quake 3 being a great classic has been ported over to other platforms leaving it fully intact.  some phones can play it but they struggle if they haven't got a decent CPU and GPU now with some of the techy models, you get basically the power of a console in your hands. Better still some have AV-OUT so you can plug it into your big screen, connect a bluetooth mouse/keyboard and wi-fi or 3G and you got the making's of a great FRAGFEST!
I will post more info on this as i test it fully with the pc and i will post benchmark results of the performance of Q3 onda phone.  I run it at 640x480 res on the phone/tv, basically nearly all of the tv screen, nice on a 32 incher! With full detail[high] and AA, yes AA onda phone Q3! due to the graphics chip.
No need for big hefty consoles or hefty pc's soon! :)

Plug and go!

CRYSIS STILL MY BENCHMARK GAME, MADE BY CRYTEK, WONDERFUL GERMAN DEVELOPERS

CRYSIS was released on pc back in november 2007, yet this day it is still one of the best looking games out there, back then if your pc run this in high detail you were lucky enough to have a decent pc,  if you ran it on low setting's you wouldn't see what the fuss was and still is about crysis.
CRYSIS 2 is out november 2010, here is a promo screen of it...

Here are some screens of it at very high and ultra setting's,  just see the detail...
